In a late evening Senior Night matchup to close out the conference schedule the Eagles hosted the North Union Warrior’s at Eagle Grove’s Greenwood Park.
4 in the 1st, 3 more in the 2nd, and the Eagles went into the 3rd with a 7 to nada lead. The third was a little more competitive as North Union got two on the scoreboard. But Eagle Grove got one more up there as well.
Things stayed competitive through the 4th and 5th. With the 4th passing without either team scoring. And the 5th seeing both teams run round the bases 3 times each.
But in the 6th the Eagles slam dunked the Warriors, cruising around the bases another 5 times. The Warriors only managed 1 run in the 6th, and that meant that the game ended with the inning as the Eagles tripped the 10 point lead rule. “Sensational senior night!” As Coach Jordan Morris said in a post to Facebook. Adding that he “can’t say enough about this senior class.”
On offense, the Eagles stole 5 bases and walked 4 times, taking 7 more at bats than the Warriors. Cayden Schultz was the clear MVP, after fantastic performances at bat and on the pitcher’s mound. As pitcher, Schultz pitched all 6 innings, striking out 10 Warriors and allowing only 1 stolen base. As a batter, Schultz had 2 hits, 1 run, an RBI, a double, and stole one base. Jake Jeske had an even stronger game at bat, hitting 3, getting 3 runs, 3 RBI’s, a double, and stealing a base.
