Eagles baseball overcomes Cougars in hard fought matchup

Manson-NW Webster traveled to Eagle Grove to meet the Eagles on their home turf at Greenwood Park on Thursday. The game was a close, evenly matched back and forth battle that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.

The first three innings belonged to the home team. In the 1st the Eagles scored 3 times. Then in the 2nd scored again. Then got two more runs in the 3rd. All while holding MNW at bay.

The Cougars rallied in the 4th to drive around the diamond twice while denying the Eagles a run. The Eagles fought back in the 5th, scoring 3 runs. But the Cougars were still on their game and outscored the Eagles by 2 for the inning. Ending the 5th with a mid-game score of 9 to 7, Eagles.

In the 6th the Cougars continued their rally, outscoring the Eagles by a run to narrow the Eagles lead to a single run, 11 to 10. And so it all came down to the 7th inning, where the two teams both gave as good as they got, scoring two each, and ending with a final score of 13 to 12, and a hard won victory for the Eagles.

The Player of the Game was Blake Morgan who had 3 hits, 2 runs, 3 RBI’s, 2 doubles and stole a base! As a pitcher Morgan pitched 2 innings, striking out 4.
