The Eagles headed north to the Garner Hayfield Ventura high school to take on the Cardinals in an early evening regular season softball matchup last Monday. The Cardinals would come to wish they Eagles had stayed in their own aerie.
Right away the Eagles went to work chalking up 2 runs in the 1st, while keeping the Cardinals from rounding the home plate. Then came a crushing 2nd inning for the Cardinals, despite scoring 4. The Eagles put on an absolutely stellar performance, going round and round the bases over and over, scoring 11 runs total!
Going into the 3rd with the scoreboard already showing a 9 point lead for the Eagles the Cardinals couldn’t rally to get back on the board and they couldn’t stop the Eagles from doing so either. The inning ended with the Eagles lead climbing to 11 points.
But in the 4th the Cardinals found their footing, and got back in the game. But the Eagles never left the game and so the two teams began an evenly matched struggle that would last the rest of the game. Going into the 5th without either team getting back on the scoreboard, both teams managed to do so 3 times.
In the end, it was clear the Eagles had won it in the beginning as the 10 point lead rule was triggered and the game ended early in the 5th. And the Cardinals took a hard fall to the Eagles 18 to 7.
Sabrina Flumerfelt and Brooklyn Osborne were the two most valuable players for the Eagles. Flumerfelt had a phenomenal game, with 3 hits, 3 runs, a home run, a double and 4 RBI’s! Olivia Conaway, Maddison Kaiser, and Chloe Steil also had great games as hitters, earning the game ball after getting a combined 7 hits in 8 at bats – a streak Coach Jim McLaughlinpraised as “DOMINANT” in a post to Facebook. Osborne pitched all 5 innings, striking out 3 and allowing no stolen bases as the Eagles stole 6.
