Squeaker for the Eagles gals over the Cougars in first round regional match

After coming up empty against North Union and Webster City in a string of disappointing thumpings, the Eagles hosted the Manson-NW Webster Cougars at Greenwood Park for a Class 2A – Region 5 First Round evening game.

The battle started out with both teams evenly matched in the 1st, each team putting 2 on the scoreboard by the 2nd. By the 3rd, the Cougars had taken a 2 point lead, scoring 4 to the Eagles 2 in the 2nd.

In the 3rd the two teams held each other at bay, scoreless. Then in the 4th the Cougars held the Eagles off, but got on the board with 1 more to double the Eagles’ score of 4.

The 5th was the real battle of the game, as the Eagles scored 5, and the Cougars scored 4. Going into the 6th down by 2 the Eagles denied the Cougars any more points while evening up the score. And with the game tied up at the top of the 7th, the Eagles managed to put the Cougars down with a one point victory, scoring 2 as MNW scored 1. Final score: 13 to 12, Eagles.

The game was a team effort for the Eagles but Addyson Jeske came out on top as MVP at bat, though Sabring Flumerfelt, Braxton Steil, and Brooklyn Osborne also put in strong performances. Jeske had 3 runs, 3 hits, an RBI and stole 2 bases. Flumerfelt had 1 run, 2 hits, 3 RBI’s and a double. On the pitcher’s mound Brooklyn Osborne pitched 4 & 1/3rd innings with Braxton Steil pitching the rest of the game. Osborne struck out 5 and Steil struck out 1 more, as they allowed 4 bases to be stolen between them.
