Last Friday, September 16, the Eagles varsity football team headed to Woodward Granger to take on the Hawks at Hawks Stadium, in an evening matchup that was also the homecoming game for the home team.
Without a doubt, the Hawks were looking to take home a win for homecoming and try as they might, the Eagles couldn't stop them.
W-G got on the scoreboard right away notching 14 in the first quarter while the Eagles came up empty. Already the Hawks coach, Cory Crnkovich, had a good feeling. "Yeah, it's a good night. Homecoming night here for us. So good first quarter, up 14 – nothing," Crnkovich said. "Going in again, so hopefully we get a w tonight… and then the dance tomorrow will be a lot more fun!"

In the second quarter, the Eagles managed to put six up, but the Hawks put up 16. Then in the third the Eagles watched W-G put up another 14 only to watch them put up six more in the final quarter. Along the way to a 50 to 6 thumping, the Hawks recovered three Eagle fumbles and racked up over 430 yards, including a few stellar long runs. With one Eagle fumble leading to a Hawk touchdown.
The game raised the Hawks up to 2 to 2 in regular conference play, and 1 to 0 in Class 1A District 2. But it pushed the Eagles down to 1 to 3, and none to 1.
