8th Grade Volleyball update – Season final

At Southeast Valley:

We traveled to Southeast Valley for our last match of the season. All the girls played hard and worked together for a fun victory to finish our season. We defeated the Jaguars 4 games to 2 games. The scores were: 21-6, 9-21, 21-19, 21-10, 21-3 and 17-21. Our leading servers were Jaz Gonzalez-Willard: 21 of 21 with 7 aces; Nicole Menke: 16 of 17 with 8 aces; Rynn Ettinger: 11 of 12 with 8 aces and Alva Redondo Amador: 10 of 13 with 6 aces. As a team we served 81 of 105 for 77% with 37 aces.

For the season we served 714 of 902 for 79% with 238 aces. We had 4 players serve exceptionally well as they served over 85% for the season. Nicole Menke at 94%, Mya Morgan at 91%, Alva Redondo Amador at 87%, and Jaz Gonzalez-Willard at 86%. We also had 4 players with more than 25 aces on the season. Mya Morgan with 66, Alva Redondo Amador with 52, Holly Anderson with 28, and Rynn Ettinger with 26. Jaz Gonzalez-Willard and Mya Morgan both did an excellent job of setting this season and Brylee Mrla and Holly Anderson, along with Mya, really stood out with their awesome hitting and attacking. Keylyee Collins, Naomi Agtun, Denise Mendez, Jennifer Hernandez, and Annye Pineda also played a big part in our team's success this year, both offensively and defensively. Every girl improved so much through the season. We finished the season with an 8-1 record and Coach McCloud and the 7th grade finished with an outstanding 8-0-1 record. Both teams had excellent seasons as they combined to finish 16-1-1.

I’ve really, really enjoyed coaching all these girls over the past two seasons. They always compete hard, always want to be successful, and have great attitudes. They will definitely help the high school program in the coming years. I also want to give a big shout out to all the 7th and 8th grade parents, grandparents, and friends that showed up and cheered on both squads at our home and away matches. They definitely helped bring energy to the games and they were very supportive of everyone one of our players.

At Belmond:

We went to Belmond for a rematch and came away with another win against the Broncos, 4 games to 2. The scores were: 21-10, 6-21, 21-17, 14-21, 21-11, and 15-5. Leading scorers were Rynn Ettinger: 14 of 16 with 5 aces; Naomi Agtun: 14 of 16 with 3 aces; Mya Morgan: 13 of 14 with 4 aces; Brylee Mrla: 9 of 9 with 3 aces; and Holly Anderson: 9 of 11 with 6 aces. As a team we served 79 of 95 for 83% and had 27 aces. We did a really good job of staying aggressive throughout the entire match. Our good passing led to some excellent sets and we finished with many successful attacks. Our communication on the court has grown throughout the season and this has led to us being more successful, both offensively and defensively. They have been a really good group to watch their development, as a team and as individuals, over the course of the season.
