Boot camp isn't something one normally thinks about as easy, but ironically the ABC's are seen as the epitome of easy. To most adults. But it can be hard to remember that once upon a time, in the early, early days of our young lives, our ABC's were actually hard.
That's the concept behind ABC Bootcamp, a modern approach to teaching the letters and the sounds they make, and how that comes together in words kids know. For 26 days, kindergarteners work their way through a course of study focused on mastering their ABC's in a phonetic manner.
On Friday the 14th, kindergarteners at Eagle Grove Elementary completed their ABC boot camp, which culminated in a fashion show of capes they made and decorated, and a musical performance of their ABCs to parents and loved ones in the Auditorium at Robert Blue Middle School. After the show, parents were invited to take part in classroom reading activities with their kids.
Following the show, parents joined their kids in the classroom to participate in their learning. Photos via Facebook.
Elementary School Principal Jared Carder said the event "is a fun way for students to celebrate new learning with family and community members." Pointing out that the kindergarteners had been "working hard to learn the different sounds that the letters of the alphabet make", Carder noted that "this lays the foundation for our students as they continue to grow as readers."
