Edge of the seat BB battle of Eagles ends with big win for EG boys

West Hancock's Eagles made the trip south down Hwy 17 to take on Eagle Grove's Eagles on the latter's home aerie for a Friday the 13th matchup that was as unlucky as it sounds for one Eagles team.

It started out looking like West Hancock's luck was in, as they hit the pine at Eagle Grove Elementary with gumption. By the end of first period play, they'd taken the lead 13 to eight over the home team.

In the second, Eagle Grove yanked the rug out from under West Hancock. In a disastrous eight minutes of play for West Hancock, the Eagles worked their way to a 9 to 5 period. Setting up the half for a near tie, with West Hancock clinging to a one point lead, 18 to 17.

In the third, West Hancock rallied and gave almost as good as they got. And when the dust cleared on the duel that was the third period, Eagle Grove had taken West Hancock's one point lead and made it their own, having put up 15 in the period to West Hancock's 13.

The final period came and the two teams were still all but tied, 32-31 Eagle Grove , making it a do-or-die period for both teams of Eagles. As it turned out, it was the Eagle Grove Eagles with the most wind under their wings, as they powered their way to a dominant 15 to seven final period, and turned what looked like it could be a close win for either team, into a decisive win.

The leading Eagles were senior Jordan Morris, junior Drake Canavan, sophomore Jaxon Morris, and senior Cody Gearhart.
