Gaels win over Eagles in boys BB hair-raiser

When the Eagles met the Gaels on their home pine at Eagle Grove Elementary Monday the 9th for a night fight, no one knew what a back and forth, hair raising nailbiter they were in for.

It started out looking great for the Eagles, who completely subjugated the Gaels in the first period. After a head spinning eight minutes, the Gaels found themselves down by 19, with just four on the board compared to the Eagles' 23.

But then, the script flipped, and the Gaels just about pulled off a backwards instant replay! Putting 20 on the scoreboard, while Eagle Grove managed 8. And so it was the Eagles who went into the half with their heads spinning, with their lead cut down to just seven.

Both teams quickly screwed their heads firmly on and got down to solid, consistent play in a second half that was a constant battle. St. Edmonds cut down the Eagles' lead a little more in the third, after scoring 15 to the Eagles 12. Putting the Gaels behind by just 4, at 39-43, Eagles.

As the fourth got underway it was clear that both teams were still in it to win it. The back halves of the bleacher benches must've been cold on both sides of the court, because it was either team's game. Until it wasn't, and the Gaels managed to wipe out the Eagle's lead at last, and squeak by with a two point win, 54-52 over the Eagles.

Leading Eagles were junior Drake Canavan, sophomore Jaxon Morris, senior Jordan Morris, and senior Cody Gearhart.
