From April snow showers to Mother’s Day flowers – Eagle Grove is in bloom!

With Mother's Day (May 14th) and graduation (May 21st) just around the corner, and the unseasonably cold and occasionally snowy weather of the past few weeks seemingly behind us, the city of Eagle Grove is fully and gloriously in bloom! And with the gorgeous warm weather and the first crop of flowers of the season in bloom and in stock, business is booming at Eagle Grove's flower shops.

"We are very busy," said Ann Wilde of the Eagle Grove Greenhouse, "it's nice out and the greenhouse is open! So that keeps us super busy."

Outside the Ben Franklin, a local treasure that is one of only two remaining in the state (and few remaining in the nation) of the iconic, once commonplace "five and dime" stores that dotted the nation almost the way Walmarts do today, flats of flowers and rows of hanging baskets surround the building. Soaking up the sunshine, they permeate the air with their fragrance, and give the busy intersection of Broadway and Commercial a bright splash of color.

City parks crews are out watering the plants along Broadway in the new planter areas created by the downtown restoration and drainage project. And all around town the fruit and berry trees are blossoming beautifully!

And as the hectic last weeks of school bear down and the festivities of Mother's Day and graduation nearly upon us, it's a good time to get outside and enjoy this beautiful city of ours, shop our local stores, and enjoy our local restaurants and cafes, as spring gives way to summer.
