Due to the intense heat, with indices topping 110 degrees on Thursday, the Iowa Falls Invitational at Mayne's Grove was postponed until Saturday morning. Boys and girls teams from eight schools in all competed, with Clear Lake sweeping the meet, and the Eagle boys coming in third with 91, while the Eagle gals did not place.
Senior Noah Thul led the Eagle boys with a run of 19:29.3, pacing 6:16. Junior Zabdi Castro came in close behind with a run of 19:46.2, pacing 6:22. Sophomore Felix Reyes was next with a time of 21:14.7, and a pace of 6:50. Freshman Hunter Waldo-Martinez ran in the middle of the pack with a time of 21:23.1 and a 6:53 pace. Junior Dylan Beck ran 21:51.0 and paced 7:02, followed by Soph Cooper Thacker with 21:56.3 and a 7:04 pace, and Felix Gonzalez with a 22:09.2 run, pacing 7:08.
On the girls side, Nicole Menke led the charge with a run of 29:52.5 and a 9:37 pace. Next up was Alizabeth Page running 30:00.7 and pacing 9:40. Janlis Nunez was next in line with a time of 32:26.3 and a pace of 10:26. And Elizabeth Lopez rounded the race out with a time of 34:48.2 and a pace of 11:12.
Clear Lake won both the girls and boys titles, with 38 points for the girls and 25 points for the boys.
In the boys contest, East Marshall took 2nd with 55, and the Eagles took third with 91 points. Humboldt came in fourth with 125. Dike-New Hartford was in 5th place with 137. South Hardin in 6th with 152. Belmond-Klemme took 7th with 172. And hosts Iowa Falls-Alden brought up the rear in 8th with 185.
In the girls race, Waken came in 2nd with 68, while hosts Iowa Falls-Alden did better, taking 3rd with 70. Dike-New Hartford took 4th with 89. Humboldt took 5th with 116. And Aplington-Parkersburg came in 6th with 144.
Senior Kaleb Grant of East Marshall had the best overall time, running 18:34.5 with a 5:59 pace. The Eagles would next run on Monday the 28th, at the Lynx Invite.
