The Eagle Grove Eagles volleyball team hosted the West Hancock Eagles at the Elementary School on Tuesday, the 29th in an evening battle that never let up and ended up going just 3 sets.
In the first set both teams were fired up and it was a tug of war battle, with Eagle Grove just besting West Hancock, scoring 25 to the Britt team's 23.
West Hancock had a weaker performance in the second set, scoring just 20 to Eagle Grove's 25. But both teams were still fighting it out.
Then, in the third set the two teams re-enacted the first set; again scoring 23 for West Hancock, and 25 for Eagle Grove.
Both teams brought their A games to the matchup. But Eagle Grove was playing with a solid level of consistency that gave them the win in all three sets, closing the match out quickly.
Eagle Grove secured an impressive total of 40 points while serving, and those serving skills proved to be a crucial factor in their victory. Showing their dominance at the net, the Eagle Grove players delivered 19 points through powerful serves which the opposition could not return.
Eagle Grove's receiving skills were also commendable, winning 33 points while receiving their opponents' serves. Which showcased their ability to control the ball and set up attacks.
"In this match, special recognition is due to Terissa Middleton and Brylee Mrla, who stood out with their exceptional dig performances," said Assistant Coach Mary Venegas. "Their ability to anticipate and retrieve difficult shots played a vital role in their team's success," Venegas noted, adding that, "their contributions were invaluable in keeping the ball in play and setting up scoring opportunities."
"Furthermore," Venegas said, "Addyson Jeske and Nadia Kaiser deserve special mention for their outstanding kills during the match. Their attacking prowess was unmatched as they consistently found gaps in the opponent's defense and delivered powerful spikes that resulted in direct points for their team."
Venegas had three other players she wanted to shout out, Holly Anderson, Reese Ettinger and Mya Morgan of the JV Volleyball team, noting that the three made a strong effort and showed a good attitude on the court. "JV Volleyball has emerged as a force to be reckoned with, showcasing their exceptional talent and unwavering determination on the court. With an impressive display of skill and teamwork, this dedicated group of athletes has achieved remarkable success, securing their victory against West Hancock."
