Wright County Republicans held their annual fundraiser at The Red Shed in Clarion on Saturday evening, August 26. More than 150 people attended the event, with short speeches given by Steve Scheffler, Republican Committeemen, Iowa State Representative Mark Thompson, and State Senator Dennis Guth. County Chair Mike Lette presided over the event. The meal was catered by Wholly Smoke BBQ from Dows.
The featured speaker was Republican Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, one of 14 vying for the Republican spot in the November 2024 election. He describes himself as a business leader, not a politician. Born and raised in Ohio, where he currently resides with his wife and two sons, Ramaswamy wants to ‘revive the American Dream’. “I think that we need to move beyond incremental reform in our party to reviving the principles of our American Revolution,” he said.
Recently turning 38 years old, Ramaswamy of Indian descent said, “Now is the time to do something for our kids and grandkids. My generation and those younger have a deep void of purpose. They are looking for a cause. We have to return to a belief in God, country, and self.” He said the U.S. Constitution is the strongest guarantor of freedoms in history. The evening was concluded with the annual Pie Auction.
Lette said, “We are happy with our fabulous turnout. Our county Republicans are on fire!”
