Supervisors lower ag park, wind farm taxes as repayment nears

The Wright County Board of Supervisors approved lowering tax levies for two Tax Increment Funding districts Oct. 23. The balances in the TIF funds for the ag park south of Eagle Grove and the wind farm in the southern part of the county will allow the supervisors to decrease those levies in the coming years.

There is a carryover in the ag park of $1.5 million. The supervisors agreed to lower the amount levied for that debt so the fund balance will gradually decrease.

The wind farm balance is $284,374, and that debt will be paid off in 2027. The levy will be decreased so that only $210,000 is collected over the next several years.

The supervisors approved a building permit for JT Dean in Section 24 of Norway Township. The permit will allow the company to replace two of the chicken production facilities that were destroyed by a storm several years ago. There were three barns destroyed.

The board heard about an all-county emergency response scenario which was held Saturday at the school building in Goldfield.

Public Health Director Sandy McGrath said a “surge pediatric emergency with casualties” was staged. “We had a really good turnout,” McGrath said. Ambulances from Clarion, Eagle Grove and Belmond responded, along with fire departments from Belmond, Clarion, Eagle Grove and Goldfield, the Wright County Sheriff’s office, the Wright County Emergency Command Center, and members of the Public Health staff. McGrath said a number of employees from Iowa Specialty Hospital, along with the mobile clinic, showed up as well.

“I feel like Wright County is totally prepared for whatever comes,” McGrath said. “I feel very, very comfortable with everybody.”
