In a post to Facebook on Monday, the City of Eagle Grove made an open call for artwork to be displayed on the walls of the newly remodeled meeting chamber in the old city hall building (now the public safety building) where city council and other city board and commission meetings are still held).
“Everybody who actually knows me knows that the extent of my design skills ends at concrete gray or asphalt black (roads),” City Administrator Bryce Davis wrote. “However, there are many talented people here. We are looking to add decor to the Council Chambers! Our thoughts are to add 5 images/photograph/graphics/ etc. to these walls.”
The post explained that the city would like to display one piece of visual art which represents each of Eagle Grove’s four wards, to be displayed permanently, and one work which would be displayed for one year at a time. Following a public poll, the interchangeable work of art would be replaced with a new work every year. And “all pieces need to represent the best of Eagle Grove,” the post stated.
“If you’re not an artist or a photographer, an idea is all we need to make this happen,” Davis also noted, making it clear that even those who are not artistic can participate.
