Anderson impresses at state tourney

Jaymie Anderson was back representing The Grove at the girls state wrestling tournament in Coralville. The sophomore sensation picked up a win in her first bout of the tourney, pinning Maravilha Vedina of Ottumwa in the first minute of the 2nd period.

Anderson would next have to face the 48-6 grappler from Raccoon River-Northwest, Calista Rodish. Unfortunately, Rodish was able to secure the victory by fall in the 2nd period, but Anderson’s day wasn’t over.

Anderson rebounded from the loss and handled her next two comers. She defeated Addie Nerem of Tipton by fall in the 1st period before pinning Jadalynn Daily of Davenport in the 2nd period. Jaymie’s efforts in the consolation bracket were enough for her to advance to Day 2.

Jaymie would draw a familiar foe on the bracket in Day 2. Kaydn Meyer of South Winneshiek had previously defeated Anderson in the final of the Super Regional in Mason City. The rubber match didn’t go the way the Eagle faithful hoped, as Anderson lost a tough 8-4 decision to close out her sophomore campaign.

Congratulations to Jaymie Anderson, Coach Richard Thacker, Coach Luke Ascherl, and all of the girls wrestlers on a spectacular season.
