Each year students at Robert Blue Middle School here in Eagle Grove carry on the tradition of service projects begun by Aaron Eilerts when he was a student at their school. This year the students produced:
80 Pillowcases.
43 pet blankets.
178 bracelets.
75 cards for Veterans.
300 “Bot Joy”
40 NICU hearts
30 NICU hats
20 Pillowcases for Patriots
48 pairs of percussion mallets
40 gift bags for chemo patients
100 secret Santa bags
60 dolls
160 birthday cards
Plus a lot of “plarn” (plastic yarn, made from recycled plastic bags), kindness rocks, worry stones, friendship bracelets, and paracord bracelets for soldiers were also produced.
As always, Aaron’s spirit of service lives on through his legacy, and the way it inspires young people today at his old school, and across the state of Iowa, to do what they can to help others.
