EGHS Senior Choir holds ‘A Night of Dreams’ Variety Show

The Eagle Grove High School (EGHS) Senior Choir held its 2024 Variety Show on Saturday night for a crowd of eager supporters. A full slate of ambitious performances, and fun game show activities were featured in the event.

The set list began with “Once Upon a Dream” and “The Impossible Dream”, both performed by the full choir. Next, Alanna Eittreim gave a heartfelt performance of “Vanilla Twilight”. Jo Jo Zigrang gave the next solo performance, with a classic from Phantom of the Opera, “Think of Me”.

Then the full choir was back with “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”, featuring solos by Corbin Pinkele, Parker Poppen, Cloey Reese, Kenna Lawrence, Alanna Eittreim, and Rachel Muzzey. Which the choir followed up with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, featuring the choir seniors as well as Pinkele, and Poppen.

Then the trio of Kenna Lawrence, Cloey Reese, and Jo Jo Zigrang performed “Tennessee Orange.” Next, Adam Champagne performed a powerful rendition of “Rescue”, which he touchingly dedicated to his sister.

Then came the first game show interlude, “Name that NIGHT Tune”. Choir Director Sandy Muzzey served as Master of Ceremonies as snippets of songs with “night” in the title were played over the loudspeaker, with the crowd guessing the title and artist. It didn’t take the crowd long to identify every song.

Then came the next solo, “This is Home” by Adrian Peterson. Followed by “Girls Night Out”, performed by Reese, Lawrence, Lukes, and Zigrang. Followed by a solo of “I Have a Dream”, touchingly sung by Cloey Reese.

The full choir then took the stage again, to perform “If I Didn’t Have You”. Then Jo Jo Zigrang took the stage again to perform another classic from the Phantom of the Opera score, “All I Ask of You”. Rachel Muzzey then commandingly performed “When Will My Life Begin”, by Mandy Moore, from the Tangled soundtrack.

Then it was time for another Game Show interlude, this time featuring songs with “dream” in the title. The audience again dominated, quickly naming each tune.

Cloey Reese and Adam Champagne then strongly performed the duet “Slipping Through My Fingers” by Abba, from the Mamma Mia soundtrack.

Finally, the crescendo of the evening came when the full choir again took the stage to dynamically perform the “Greatest Showman Medley”. “The Greatest Showman” portion of the medley featured solos by Ryan White, Allana Eittreim, and Darci Anderson. The “Million Dreams” portion, soloists Corbin Pinkele, Adrian Peterson, Rachel Muzzey, and Jo Jo Zigrang were featured. The “This Is Me” portion featured solos by Adam Champagne and Cloey Reese). And finally the performance closed with the “Come Alive” ending to the medley.

The Choir ensemble included underclassmen Gizelle Amador, Liliana Antonio, Ally Capsel, Alanna Eittreim, Adam Champagne, Anikah Ferry, Marlen Lizama, Rachel Muzzey, Adrian Peterson, Corbin Pinkele, Parker Poppen, Emily Schaefer, Kearsyn Tolbert, and Ryan White, and Seniors Darci Anderson, Kenna Lawrence, Sara Lukes, Cloey Reese, Jo Jo Zigrang, and Rosa Vasquez Reyes.

Technical staff included Sound Techs Jeanette White and Karla Tweeten, Light Tech Emily White, Video Tech David Muzzey, Freedy Lopez and Eduardo Sosa on spotlights, and Aster Binkerd on curtains.

The Choir and Production was directed by Sandy Muzzey. Special thanks were offered to Christ Furniture for facilitating ticket sales.
