Jaxon Morris breathes basketball

Jaxon Morris says his hoop dreams began when he was a youngster learning the fundamentals of basketball from his dad.

“I started when I was really young and didn’t play on an actual team until 7th grade,” he explained. “I was in the backyard all the time playing with my dad and my brothers.”

It was around that time that he discovered his knack for scoring.

“I’ve always been a good shooter,” Morris said confidently.

That accurate shooting was on full display when he shot 36% from three-point range in his breakout sophomore campaign a year ago. Morris showed off more of the same this year, with three 25 point performances against West Bend-Mallard, Belmond-Klemme, and St. Edmond. He also led the Eagles in the first round of Districts with a 26 point, 12 rebound, and 7 assist explosion vs. Southeast Valley.

His efforts earned him an Honorable Mention in the Top of Iowa-West Conference, but Morris is already visualizing what next year will look like.

“I’d like to be 1st Team All-Conference,” he said with a blank stare. “My sophomore year and this year I should’ve been 2nd Team.”

Keep dreaming, Jaxon. It’s already gotten you this far.
