At about 11:40 AM on Thursday, the Eagle Grove Community School District (EGCSD) received a report of a potential threat, leading to an immediate lockdown of all Eagle Grove public schools.
“We encourage community members that if they ‘see something, say something’. And that’s the kind of thing we had here,” said EGCSD Superintendent Jess Toliver. “After we received a report of a concern the police were called in. We locked down out of an abundance of caution to evaluate the situation.”
Law enforcement “quickly arrived at the scene,” Eagle Grove Police Chief Ray Beltran explained in a statement to The Eagle, and “contacted the reporting party.” Fortunately, “it was determined there had been a miscommunication and there was no threat to the district. Schools were taken off lock down,” Beltran concluded.
Schools continued to “operate as normal,” according to a post made to the district Facebook group, with an increased police presence and staff closely monitoring the doorways “for the remainder of the day.”
“We appreciate the vigilance of the community,” Toliver told The Eagle, “and always take concerns seriously.”
