Egg Hunters Run Like the Wind

It was a windy day but not a frigid one Saturday, April 6th when Eagle Grove held their Easter Egg hunt, after the initially planned hunt was postponed due to snow. Cassidy Reed of the newly formed Eagle Grove Empowerment organization, which took over running the event from the Chamber of Commerce this year, put it to a community vote in the Empowerment group on Facebook after the spring snowfall, and the vote was overwhelmingly in favor of postponement.

And while many had expressed concern that the event (which was held at Hewitt Park instead of Greenwood Park this year) would be under attended, as things turned out it was jam-packed, wind or no wind. Even Peter Rabbit, aka The Easter Bunny, showed up, and posed for portraits and selfies with attendees.

Hewitt Park turned out to be a perfect venue for the event as kids entertained themselves on the playground equipment while waiting for the hunt to begin. And, with the inspiration of the NCAA women’s championship game the night before fresh in their minds (which saw brilliant, record breaking play from Iowa Hawkeyes phenomenon Caitlyn Clark in a narrow, hard fought defeat against the undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks) kids crowded the basketball courts.

And as soon as the horn sounded to release the egg hounds, the hunt was on and the hunters outran the wind. As is usually the case at the community Easter egg hunt, the local kids made quick work of cleaning up the thousands of plastic eggs littering the grass, homing in on them as they glittered in the spring sunshine.

Eggs were filled with candy and vouchers for a plethora of prizes, donated thanks to the generosity of a group of local donors offering financial support. Among those were AGP, Veronica Colorado, the Dani Eisentrager Law Office, the Eagle Grove Police Department, Debbie Evans, Fareway, First Bank, First State Bank, Tracy Gill, Gold Eagle Cooperative, Holmes Christmas, Homeland Realty, the Johnson Law Firm, Andrew & Jenni Lesher, Sara Middleton, Pop’s Pizza & Pub, Prestage Foods of Iowa, Ryerson Realty, Barbara Salgado, Slay Nutrition. Deb & Dustin Smith, Heather Weiner, and Heidi Wilwerding.
