Last Thursday, May 16th, two Eagle Grove girls track sensations represented the purple and gold at historic Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Junior long jumper Addy Jeske and senior sprinter Ayden Feske both qualified for the Iowa High School Track & Field Championships after outstanding performances at Districts.
Jeske’s jump of 16’9.75” earned her a 6th place medal at this year’s state meet. She is a three-time qualifier for “The Blue Oval” and placed 8th a year ago.
Coach Andy Ettinger had high praise for Jeske’s performance and desire to succeed.
“Addy is always coachable and positive,” Ettinger remarked. “Last year placing 8th at state she said, “I can do better next year!” This year she did just that.”
In the second heat of Thursday’s 100-meter dash prelims, Ayden Feske laced up her spikes for the final time as an Eagle Grove runner. She ran a time of 13.12 and finished 17th place overall.
“Ayden has accomplished so much in this sport,” declared Ettinger. “As I watched her run her last race as a senior at state, it was tough. Did I hold back tears? Yes! It’s not that she didn’t have a great senior year, it’s just hard to say goodbye and know that this is it. She has been a great role model and has turned into a true leader.”
Ettinger added that he “couldn’t be more proud of these two.”
