The 1-6 Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals were in Eagle Grove on June 3rd for a humid night of summer softball. After the Cardinals strung together a few hits and brought two across home plate the 1st, the Eagles buckled down and responded in the best way. The hometown ladies emerged victorious after an astonishing four-inning master class of hitting and base running.
In the bottom of the 1st, Maddison Kaiser and Tarissa Middleton drew walks to set up cleanup hitter Celeste Figueroa. Figueroa absolutely smacked a triple to center to bring her teammates home. Brooklyn Osborn outran a routine grounder to score Figueroa and give the Eagles the lead for good.
Middleton had an RBI double to left in her next turn at bat. Osborn’s RBI single to center field increased the lead to 9-2 in the bottom of the 2nd, and Myah Edwards blasted a triple to right to score Brooklyn.
GHV would come knocking in the 4th inning with a run of their own, but starting ace Osborn struck out two to remove any thought of a comeback. She finished the night with three strikeouts and one walk.
Osborn went 2 for 3 in the batter’s box with two RBI’s. Maddison Kaiser had two singles and an RBI and Nadia Kaiser contributed a hit and two RBI’s for Eagle Grove.
