The Eagle Grove girls basketball team won their season opener over Southeast Valley on Monday night. After building a 24-10 lead at the half, the purple and gold survived a 3rd quarter run from the Jaguars and cruised to a 49-35 victory.
Freshman guard Taytum Edwards poured in a game high 25 points in her first varsity game as an Eagle. Senior forward Myah Edwards dropped in another 13 points in the win.
Coach Zach Whipple was especially proud of the dynamic Eagle Grove defense that recorded double digit steals.
“We came out and played aggressively in the passing lanes and forced turnovers,” Whipple said. “We used our speed to get out in transition and get some easy fast break points.”
Coach Whipple also praised his post players for their hard work in the trenches.
“Offensively, we didn’t have the best shooting night, but Kendra Schild and Myah were huge on the glass for us giving us second chance opportunities.”
The team will have a short break for Thanksgiving and get back to it on December 3rd in their home opener against #5 Forest City.
