Late Run Not Enough To Overcome Gaels

On Monday, the Lady Eagles were at home for a non-conference hoops battle against the 2-7 St. Edmond Gaels.

Early on, Taytum Edwards used her speed in transition for two easy layups. She then canned a three that gave EG a 10-9 lead, but the Eagles struggled to score in the 2nd quarter and trailed 23-12 at the half.

Eagle Grove regained their shooting touch in the 3rd, with Taytum and Myah Edwards both converting on long twos. Ellie Lenning earned a hard fought bucket inside as the Eagles cut the deficit to nine.

St. Edmond went on a 7-0 run to start the 4th, but Taytum countered with another made three. Kendra Schild, who finished with nine points and an astounding 19 rebounds, scored most of her points in the final quarter. Lenning came through with an old-fashioned three-point play late in the game, but the Eagles were unable to come back and fell 48-37 to the Gaels.

Taytum Edwards was Eagle Grove’s leading scorer with 14 points. Coach Whipple complimented his freshman’s effort after the game: “I thought Taytum played a great game for the amount of pressure defensively they sent at her.”

“We need to limit turnovers and convert our free throws and open shots under the rim…” Whipple added. “…We will be in a good spot as we start the second half of conference play.”

Myah Edwards grabbed nine boards for the Eagles, and Lenning finished with six points.
