Girls Wrestlers Wrap Up Season In Osage

On Saturday, girls wrestlers from Eagle Grove competed in their Class 2A Reg. 4 state qualifying meet in Osage. A slew of ranked wrestlers from 18 schools were in attendance and only the top two individual finishers from each weight class would advance to this weekend’s state tournament in Coralville.  

Catherine Orozco, who weighed in at 100 lbs. for most of the season, was bumped up to 105 in Osage. She lost by fall in the quarterfinal to a Sumner-Fredericksburg opponent, but rebounded with a 2nd period win by fall over Ashlyn Blake of MFL MarMac. Orozco lost by fall in the next consolation round and ended her season with a 23-12 record. 

Jaymie Anderson, who battled injuries for a portion of her junior season, wrestled at 120 for the Eagles. She earned a 2nd period win by fall in her first match, but drew #10 (1A) Taylor Thayer of Emmetsburg in the semifinals. Anderson was pinned by Thayer, but came back with a pin of her own in the consolation semis. In the 3rd place match, Anderson lost by fall to Tori Keonigs of Riceville and had to settle for 4th place. 

Keylyee Collins (125) faced wrestlers from Northwood-Kensett and North Butler-Clarksville, but lost both matches by fall. 

As a team, the Eagles finished with 18 points for 16th place overall. Osage won the tournament with 235 points, followed by Decorah (205) and Sumner-Fredericksburg (146.5).
