Longtime EGHS rival, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows – the No. 9 ranked team in 2A – visited town last week for a Tuesday night of boys wrestling. The home and away bleachers were congested for a short and mostly one-sided dual that saw the Cowboys prevail 71-11.

The lightweights went head-to-head to start the action, and freshman 106-pounder Ethan Schreiber fell behind 7-0 in the 1st period of his match with Cole Wibholm. The slippery Schreiber refused to be pinned, but lost a 15-0 tech fall in the 2nd

Andrew Orozco battled intensely in his skirmish with Paxton Redenius at 113. Orozco led 4-3 in the 1st period after recording an escape and a takedown, but Redenius eventually won by fall in 3:27.

Eagle Grove’s star 120-pounder Dylan Terwilliger gave his home crowd something to cheer for in his match vs. Angel Cortes. He outmaneuvered and outwitted the Cowboy on his way to an 18-2 tech fall win in 2:51.

Hunter Waldo-Martinez  (126) and Jackson Babcock (138) would both lose their matches via fall, and Eagle Grove surrendered 30 additional points due to open weights at 132, 144, 150, 165, and 215.

Hayden Schafer dominated C-G-D’s Caden Hauenstein at 157, jumping to a 17-3 lead before winning via fall in 3:34.

Carter Bjorklund (175) and Jayden Kreitlow (190) were both bumped up a weight class. They, along with Jesus Baez at 285, would lose by fall in the 1st period of their respective matches.
