William Baker

William Kenneth Baker, the son of Harold and Bertha (Wilcox) Baker, was born on February 2, 1932, in Woolstock, Iowa.  He attended country school in Woolstock Township before graduating from Eagle Grove High School with the “Class of 1950”.

Bill served on the USS Princeton CV-37 in the United States Navy during the Korean War and in the United States Air Force, 6555th Guided Missiles– serving a total of 7 years and 9 months.

On October 22, 1960, Bill was united in marriage to Viola Nelson in Blue Earth, MN.

Bill was the Eagle Grove wastewater superintendent, working for the city for 30 plus years.

Bill was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church.  For 53 years, he was dedicated to serving on the Eagle Grove Fire Department – 35 years as Assistant Chief.  When Bob Koob was chief of police and Archie Lalor was Fire Chief, Bill and Vi lived in City Hall and served as the Fire Departments first driver.

Bill passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the age of 93 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Viola and brother, Harold D. Baker.

Survivors include his brother, Ron Baker (Loretta), nephews, Bryan and Kenny Baker and step grandson, Terry Pittman.

Memorial services were Friday, February 28, 2:00 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to service time.

Memorials may be directed to Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.
