EAGLE GROVE, Iowa – Local residents seeking affordable shopping options will soon have a new destination, thanks to the opening of Wright County Discounts, a new retail store offering brand-new merchandise at 30-50% off retail prices. The store, owned by Terry and Jamie Gump of Goldfield, is set to open its doors on March 21 and 22 and will operate regularly on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

The Gumps, longtime residents of Goldfield, saw a need in the community for a local discount retail option, especially given the recent departure of Ben Franklin from the city, and the closing of Shopko in Clarion some years back. Their business model, which relies on wholesale purchasing, allows them to pass significant savings on to customers. By buying truckloads of overstocked items from major retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Sam’s Club, the store is able to provide substantial discounts on a constantly rotating selection of goods.

“We know times are tough for a lot of people,” Terry Gump said. “Prices are high everywhere, and not everyone is comfortable shopping online. We wanted to offer a local option that makes everyday essentials and name-brand items more affordable.”

Wright County Discounts will stock a variety of household goods, including appliances, cosmetics, clothing, and footwear. The store will also feature specialty items such as electronics, including big screen TV’s, fitness equipment, and even seasonal products like swimming pools and grills. Most items will be sold brand new in original packaging, with a small selection of open-box items that have been thoroughly inspected. Every product will be sold at a steep discount compared to major retail stores like Walmart, and Target.

Jamie Gump emphasized that their goal is to ease financial burdens for local families. “We want to help stretch people’s budgets further. If you can buy a pair of brand-name shoes for $10 instead of $50 or an air fryer for half the price you’d pay elsewhere, that’s money that can go toward groceries, bills, or other necessities.”

The couple has tested the waters by selling items from their home in Goldfield, where they received overwhelming support. “We had a garage sale before Christmas just to gauge interest, and the response was incredible,” Jamie said. “People were excited to have an affordable local option, and we knew then that we had to make this happen.”

While the store is opening in a modest location, the Gumps already have plans to expand. They are actively looking for a larger space in Eagle Grove to accommodate more inventory and provide an even better shopping experience.

With the economy putting strain on many families, Wright County Discounts aims to provide relief while boosting the local economy. The Gumps hope that their store will not only serve Wright County residents but also attract shoppers from neighboring communities looking for great deals without the need to travel far.

“We’re here to help people save money and make life a little easier,” Terry said. “We believe in this community, and we’re excited to bring something new and positive to the area.”

For now, the Gumps encourage shoppers to visit early when the store opens, as inventory will change weekly and hot-ticket items are expected to go fast. The store will be located in Eagle Grove, at 2759 Country Lane Circle (in the same shopping center as Bomgaars, at the southern end of town, just off Commercial Ave.) with hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Shoppers can follow Wright County Iowa Discounts on Facebook for updates on new inventory, special sales, and store news.

A post to the store’s Facebook page shows the many major name brand products the store will have in stock when it opens March 21st.
