AMES, Iowa – Business planning starts with an idea, but attaining a healthy, functioning business requires completing tasks that can seem overwhelming. In the newest installment of the Urban Agriculture Webinar Series, Alex Van Alstyne, food business education specialist with Iowa State University, will share knowledge and resources for understanding and developing a business plan. Attendees will learn about scaling up their urban farm and exploring value-added products.
Van Alstyne provides guidance and training to food entrepreneurs, small food businesses and specialty crop producers. With experience in owning a food manufacturing facility, a restaurant storefront and a food truck, Van Alstyne is passionate about empowering food businesses to succeed.
The webinar is set for Thursday, May 1, from 1 to 2 p.m. To participate, please register online.
“Beginning and experienced farmers will both learn valuable lessons to establish or maintain long-term financial success. After the presentation, viewers will be able to submit questions during an interactive Q&A segment,” said Graham Sandersfeld, urban agriculture outreach specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.
“With our provided template, we offer step by step instructions to elevate ideas to the next level. Our financial recommendations are key elements that will cover everything from bootstrapping funds to generating sales projections and help prepare a business to approach their first investor,” said Van Alstyne.
