EAGLE GROVE, Iowa — Hewitt Park was packed Saturday afternoon as families turned out in droves for this year’s Easter Egg Hunt, hosted by Eagle Grove Empowerment. The event kicked off at 3:00 p.m. under clear skies and sunshine, drawing what appeared to be the largest turnout in memory. As evidenced by the cars that lined the streets all around the park.

In the days leading up to the event, volunteers gathered gifts from local retailers and sponsors. Then still more volunteers worked to fill plastic eggs with candy and prize slips,

with the Rails Depot once again provided space for the team to prepare thousands of eggs in time for the big day.

“I’m so glad that we were able to make it another successful year,” said event organizer Cassidy Reed. “The group of girls I’m working with really helped me out. Along with our sponsors.”

Eagle Grove Empowerment, the group behind the hunt, is made up of Reed, Mackenzie Rasmussen, Jenni Lesher, and Daisah Shivers, in addition to still more volunteers who worked to fill the eggs. “It wouldn’t have been possible without our volunteers and sponsors,” Reed noted.

Children scrambled to collect thousands of colorful eggs in record time. Ellie Madson, one of the young participants, noted, that they were gone “really fast!”

There was a wide selection of truly premium prizes to be won. “We had hoverboards, electric scooters, tons of stuff,” Reed said, explaining that “I wrote a letter asking for donations and dropped them off to local stores. It really helped us out a lot.”

This year’s event was made possible by a long list of generous sponsors: AGP, American Sanitation, Brandon & Kelsey Hauck, Christ Furniture, CIDD, EG Pharmacy, Fareway, First Bank, Gold Eagle, Heather Weiner, Holmes Christmas, the Johnson Law Firm, Prestage Foods, Rails Bar & Grill, Ann Shriver, Deb Smith, Jennifer Lesher, Wright County Discounts, and The Eagle Grove Chamber of Commerce.
