Freshman Golfer Shows Incredible Poise

Eagle Grove girls golfers had three successful meets last week, and freshman sensation Azlyn Amonson walked away with two individual titles and a runner-up.

On Tuesday afternoon, the girls faced off against Top of Iowa conference opponents from North Union and West Hancock at Britt Golf Course. The purple and gold would be the only school with a complete team and finished with a score of 202. 

Amonson was awarded meet medalist at West Hancock after shooting a 48 over nine holes. Kennedy Thacker scored a 49 for runner-up, and Piper Willard finished 3rd with a 50. Junior Caitlin Christopher tied for 5th with a 55, and freshman Salem Willard came in 7th with a 59.

On Thursday, the Eagles edged out the competition at Livermore’s Spring Valley Golf Course. Amonson shot a 46 to tie for 2nd at the triangular against Bishop Garrigan and Lake Mills. Thacker finished tied for 4th with a 49, and Salem and Piper Willard tied for 7th with 54’s to bring EG’s team score to 203. 

The purple and gold would wrap up their busy week with a Friday home triangular vs. Lake Mills and North Union. Amonson helped lead EG to the team title, tying with Reagan Ham of Lake Mills for 1st overall individually. Thacker took bronze with a 48. Piper Willard (4th/51), Christopher (7th/57), Salem Willard (9th/59), and Lily Locke (13th/74) also golfed for EGHS.
