EAGLE GROVE, Iowa — The Eagle Grove Chamber of Commerce’s Ladies Night Out event, held Friday, May 2 at Nine & Dine Restaurant, proved to be a lively and successful evening of games, prizes, and community support. The event, which also marked the conclusion of the Shop Local Poker promotion, brought out a strong crowd and raised funds to support future Chamber activities.

The night began with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by Vegas-style casino games starting at 6 p.m. Attendees used purchased “Casino Cash” to play their way through the tables, with the added bonus of door purchases being matched. Many guests arrived early and stayed late, enjoying the festive atmosphere, friendly competition, and an appetizer buffet.

At 8 p.m., Casino Cash was exchanged for raffle tickets, and guests bid on a wide variety of prizes donated by local businesses. The final drawing took place at 9 p.m., concluding an evening full of energy and laughter.

Chamber Board member Sara Middleton noted that it was really when the games opened up to the gentlemen that the event really hit its stride, passing the break even mark and making the event a successful fundraiser.

The Shop Local Poker promotion, which had been underway since April 18, also wrapped up during the event. Shoppers had earned playing cards by spending money at participating local businesses, building their poker hands over the previous two weeks. Dozens of completed hands were submitted, and the top three were awarded prizes. Participants did not need to be present to win.

Both events aimed to encourage support for local businesses and strengthen community ties, goals which the Chamber reported were clearly met. Proceeds from the evening will help fund Chamber programs and events throughout the year.

Free snacks aplenty included nacho cheese dip, a variety of salsas, vegetables, pinwheels, little smokies in barbecue sauce, and a charcuterie platter of lunchmeats, cheeses, and crackers. (Photo by Edward Lynn)
