EAGLE GROVE, Iowa — The 4th and 5th grade choirs of Eagle Grove Elementary School delivered a lively and heartfelt performance during their spring music concert held Monday evening, May 5, 2025.
A crowd of proud families and supporters gathered to watch students showcase a range of music, from patriotic tributes to beloved pop favorites. The program, organized by music teacher Karla Tweeten with support from art teachers Meghan Erdman and Brandi Wesselink, reflected weeks of hard work and collaboration.
The 4th grade choir presented a selection of tunes including the American folk song “Love Somebody,” Richard Starkey’s “Octopus’s Garden,” and timely patriotic numbers like “This Is My Country” and “What Can One Little Person Do” by Sally Rogers. They wrapped up with a crowd favorite: Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing,” co-written with the iconic rock superstar’s regular writing partner, Bernie Taupin.
The 5th graders followed with a spirited lineup that included Ray Charles’ catchy classic “Fifty Nifty,” the traditional African American folk song “Follow the Drinkin’ Gourd,” and a medley of “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” with “The Caissons Go Rolling Along.” They also performed “Yakety Yak” by Leiber & Stoller and closed with “Wonderful Life” by the Kirkpatricks.
Teachers, staff, and volunteers received thanks for their support, including Mrs. Kist for organizing music notes, Mrs. Erdman for artwork in the auditorium, and local music teachers Justin and Elizabeth Schwake for running sound. Custodians and Music Boosters were also recognized, along with donors who contributed to the fall fundraiser.
