Last week, the Eagle Grove girls’ golf team continued their brilliant season with two important area tournaments.

On Monday, May 12, Azlyn Amonson golfed for 4th overall with an 88 and was four strokes shy of being runner-up at the Top of Iowa-West Conference Tournament in Belmond.  Kennedy Thacker came through with a 94 through 18-holes that tied her for 7th, while Piper Willard (17th/100) and Salem Willard (30th/112) rounded out the scoring for EGHS.

Caitlin Christopher (34th/118) and Lily Locke (42nd/151) also represented the purple and gold at Belmond Country Club.

Garner-Hayfield-Ventura would win the nine-team conference tournament with a low score of 367, followed by Bishop Garrigan (379), Belmond-Klemme (388), Forest City (393), and Eagle Grove (394).

The stakes were even higher on Friday at Clarmond Country Club for the ladies’ Class 2A Sectional Tournament against Southeast Valley, Iowa Falls-Alden, Grundy Center, East Sac County, Manson-Northwest Webster, Pocahontas Area, and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.  Eagle Grove came prepared to play and finished 3rd as a team with 418 total points.  Grundy Center (371) and East Sac County (408) would both advance to the next round of play along with the top-6 individual golfers.  Senior Kennedy Thacker was the lone Eagle who golfed well enough to advance to compete at Pine Lake Country Club’s Class 2A Regional Tournament for a chance to qualify for state.

Thacker shot 101 through 18-holes for 6th place overall.  Azlyn Amonson had a solid showing for the Eagles and placed  7th with a 102.  Four Grundy Center players would finish in the top-5 at Clarmond.  Spartan senior Leah Larson was the medalist with an 86.

Piper Willard finished her golfing career with a 105 for 11th.  Caitlin Christopher placed 20th with a score of 110.
