As the weather service warned of winds as high as 60 miles an hour, an impromptu lesson in how fast a small simmering ember can become a raging inferno in windy conditions was taught by Mother Nature at the Kvale Tree Service yard, on the outskirts of Eagle Grove. “There’s always a simmering fire here,” one firefighter, who remained anonymous, complained — noting that sometimes the glow could be seen at night. Asked for comment, one unidentified worker at the yard snarled, “we don’t want the attention!” Which this reporter will take as a clear ‘no comment’.
