Girls Battle #6 Forest City

The Eagle Grove girls’ basketball team (2-11 overall, 0-7 conference) played two of their three scheduled games last week. 

On Monday, the team traveled to Webster County for a matchup against St. Edmond (6-3 overall).  The Gaels led throughout the night and walked away with a 56-28 victory.

EGHS sophomore Azlyn Amonson had a team-high 8 points on 50% shooting in the loss.

Holly Anderson contributed 4 points and 8 rebounds, and senior Kendra Schild added 6 points and 4 boards.

Sophomore guards Myka Anderson and Ellie Lenning scored 5 points apiece.  Lenning also had 3 steals and 2 assists.

The girls had a quick turnaround and suited up again on Tuesday night.  This time, the (3A) #6 Forest City Indians (11-1 overall, 7-0 conference) were in town for a Top of Iowa-West showdown against the Eagles.

Lenning, Schild, Amonson, Myka Anderson, and Holly Anderson were all in the starting lineup for the purple and gold.

Myka Anderson attacked the rim early and brought the score to 9-4 after a layup.  Forest City would then go on a 17-point run to end the 1st quarter.

The Eagles would get to the free throw line in the 2nd quarter.  Holly Anderson hit a jumper, and Lenning nailed a three in the quarter.

Forest City led 46-16 at the half.

In the 3rd quarter, Myka Anderson showed off her range by drilling two corner threes from the same spot.

The Indians utilized their deep bench throughout the game and eventually won, 64-22. 

Myka Anderson finished with 11 points and 3 steals.  Lenning added 5 points, 3 steals, 2 assists, and 3 boards. 

Schild had 3 points and 5 rebounds.

The girls were scheduled to play on the road against West Hancock (5-7 overall, 3-6 conference) on Friday night, but the game was postponed due to weather. 

The conference game will take place on January 22nd at West Hancock High School.
