The 4th and 5th grade band and choir classes put on their Concert on Tuesday, the 3rd of May, to a packed auditorium.<\/p>\n
The 4th graders took the stage first, breaking out their recorders for a rendition of the folk song "Miss Mary Mack" for starters. Afterward, teacher Karla Tweeten joked that the audience probably cringed at the sight of that many recorders, but that they needn't have worried, as the kids actually played them quite well.<\/p>\n
After that they launched into "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from Mary Poppins, by the Sherman brothers. After that was "Patriotic Medley" by Cohan, Guthrie, and Bates. Then came the old American folk song Old Joe Clark. And lastly the night's title song, "Wonderful Life", by Wayne & Karey Kirkpatrick (as made famous by Zendaya in the soundtrack for 2018's film Smallfoot, not the 1946 Christmas classic).<\/p>\n
Then the 5th graders took to the stage. Right off the bat they went deep into Ray Charle's songbook with "Nifty Fifty", which got them off to a good start. After that came the old African American spiritual "Joshua Fit The Battle of Jericho". And then, keeping in that same genre, the traditional African America folk song "Follow The Drinkin' Gourd".<\/p>\n
Things got more lively after that, as the 5th graders launched into a version of "Yakety Yak", upgraded for the smartphone age. And then staying in a an upbeat tempo, came "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".<\/p>\n
After the concert, the audience was invited to enjoy the artwork by Robert Blue Middle School students, on display in the auditorium thanks to the handiwork of art teachers Mrs. Erdman and Ms. Osborn.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
