Sigourney Restaurant Reopens

SIGOURNEY – Toby’s Pizza and Steakhouse, a restaurant located on the north side of the Sigourney square, reopened on Feb. 25, following two months of absence. The restaurant closed shortly after Christmas due to troubles finding employees. Owner Toby Garcia used the down time to renovate the restaurant, separating the kitchen and dining areas, which he hopes will help with the restaurant’s atmosphere during the summertime. Garcia plans to have Toby’s open from 4 til 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays. He stated that he is currently seeing how things go and may reopen the restaurant during lunchtime in the future, if the restaurant is successful. The reopened restaurant also features updated menu prices.

Garcia, who has also owned and operated the Sigourney Cafe since 2013, bought Toby’s, then called George’s Pizza and Steakhouse, from owner George Papadopoulos in 2021, when Papadopolous decided to retire.

“George’s was here for ten, fifteen years, but everyone knows me because I own the cafe,” said Garcia. “All the customers really got to know me, when I took over George’s…So they still know about the pizza, that we kept the same recipe…They like how the pizza is made. It’s not a frozen pizza, it’s everything fresh. I think it’s a part of it, that customers know our pizza, it’s homemade. It’s what it is. I appreciate a town that responds well, so that’s really keeping me going.”
