Track qualifiers to be decided at WACO, All four area schools to have district track in Wayland

BOONE – In order to test themselves against the rest of the state, they’ll first have to test themselves against each other.

The district track qualifying assignments were released last week and all four area schools were given the same assignment. Sigourney, Keota, English Valleys and Pekin will all travel to WACO on May 15 for the State qualifying track meet.

A total of 14 different schools will compete at the district track meet.

In order to qualify for the State meet the winner in each event will gain an automatic berth into the State meet. The IHSAA and IGHSAU will then take the next 14 best performances from all the other State qualifying meet results, will earn a qualification to the State track meet. There are only 24 qualifiers allowed in each event.

Joining the four area schools at the WACO state qualifying meet will be: Columbus, Danville, Highland, Hillcrest Academy, HLV-TC, Lone Tree, New London, WACO, Wapello and Winfield-Mt. Union.

Field events will start the meet at 4 p.m. Then running events will start at 4:45 p.m.

The State track and field meet will take place May 22-24 in Des Moines at Drake Stadium.
