Area athletes shine, set new records at Savage Relays

SIGOURNEY – Just about every team seemed to turn in a fast time or two.

Last Tuesday Sigourney held their annual Savage Relays and all four area schools that had at least one team in attendance seemed to have a fast time.

In the girls points Sigourney tied Pekin for third. Both teams scored 64 points. HLV-TC were the winners with 123 points. Keota finished 11th with three points.

Pekin’s boys finished second overall with 105 points, just four points behind meet winner, Columbus who had 109 points.

English Valleys finished third with 80 points. Sigounrey was eighth with 38 points.

One of the fastest runners in the meet was English Valleys senior, Gage Heyne who was able to set two new track records during his runs.

Heyne started off the day in style with a new meet and track record in the 3,200 meter run. He had a winning time of 9:48.51.

Later, Heyne was the final leg of the distance medley team for the Bears as they were able to win with a new meet and track record time of 3:38.98. That team consisted of Ben Coffman, Deshon Anderson, Jack Osborn and Heyne.

The English Valleys senior won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:06.12 almost a second ahead of the second place finisher.

To cap everything off Heyne reset his own meet and track record while winning the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:30.58. He beat the record he set last year by 12 seconds.

Girls results:

Ellie Yates won the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:29.26. Addison Yates was second with a time of 11:51.93.

Pekin’s shuttle hurdle relay team of Reece Brisby, Paislee Coleman, Carlie Gambell and Kayse Miller won the race with a time of 1:11.55.

Sigourney’s 4×200 team of Carmalita Cave, McKinley Chittick, Brynn Clarahan and Kia Montgomery finished third. Pekin’s 4×200 team placed sixth.

Paislee Coleman from Pekin was second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.39. Teammate Reece Brisby was sixth overall.

Ellie Yates and Addison Yates, both from Sigourney, finished second and third in the 1,500 meter run. Pekin’s Callie Deutchle was seventh.

Anna Hadley won the girls discus throw with an effort of 126-feet-10-inches. Josephine Moore from Sigourney was fourth. Pekin’s Taylor Moore and Grace Phillips finished sixth and seventh. Kennedy Jackson from Keota was eighth.

Pekin’s Kayse Miller was second in the girls high jump with an effort of 5-feet-2-inches. Teammate Reece Brisby was sixth and McKinley Chittick from Sigourney was seventh.

Anna Hadley from Pekin won the shot put with a throw of 37-feet-8.5-inches. Josephine Moore was third with a throw of 33-feet-2.5-inches. Taylor Moore from Pekin was fifth. Keota’s Kennedy Jackson finished 10th.

In the girls distance medley relay the Pekin girls led the area athletes with a third place finish. Sigourney placed eighth.

Keota’s Olivia Lyle was sixth in the 200 meter dash.

Sigourney’s Brynn Clarahan was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles. Pekin’s Renae Eubanks was seventh overall.

In the 4×400 the Sigourney team placed fourth to lead area teams. Keota was seventh and Peklin placed eighth.

Carlie Gambell from Pekin was sixth in the long jump to lead the area athletes.

Sigourney’s Carmalita Cave led the area runners in the 100 meter dash with an eighth place finish. Keota’s Cameron Haifley was 15th.

In the girls sprint medley relay the Sigourney team finished fourth with a time of 2:04.13. Keota finished seventh and Pekin was 11th.

Pekin’s 4×800 team finished fourth in the 4×800 meter run. Sigourney was fifth overall.

Abby Guise of Pekin led area athletes in the 800 meter run with an 11th place finish.

The Pekin girls 4×100 team finished sixth to lead area teams. Keota placed 10th and Sigourney 11th in the same race.

Boys results:

The Pekin boys 4×800 team of Mason Dahlstrom, Lane Fariss, Landon Crow and Cole Millikin won the race with a time of 8:37.01, setting a new meet record in the process. English Valleys placed fourth. Sigourney was sixth.

Troy Klett of Sigourney was third in the 3,200 meter run. Pekin’s Dylan Sobaski was 10th.

Pekin hurdler Kasey Davis was second overall in the 110 hurdles. Sigouney teammates Caden Clarahan and Owen Menke finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Riley Smith from Pekin was able to win the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.9. Cael Grove from English Valleys was sixth. Sigourney teammates Dillon Menke and Carson Davis were seventh and eighth.

Caden Bender from Pekin won the discus throw with a hurl of 140-feet. Sigouney’s Jayden Thompson was second. Alton Williams from Pekin was third. Kane Axmear from English Valleys placed 11th.

English Valleys long jumper Deshon Anderson won the long jump event with a leap of 21-feet. Will Adam from Pekin was second with a leap of 20-feet-7-inches. Henry Eubanks was fourth with a leap of 19-feet and Sigourney’s Aiden Knepper finished fifth with a leap of 18-feet-11-inches.

The Pekin boys shuttle hurdle relay team finished second with a time of 1:03.02. Sigourney was third.

Pekin’s Cody Silvers was second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.44. English Valley’s Braydon Anderson was third.

Pekin’s 4×200 team of Robert Brown, Nolan Glick, Riley Smith and Will Adam finished second. English Valleys placed fifth and Sigourney’s team placed seventh overall.

Pekin paced the area teams in the 4×400 with a second place finish. Sigourney was sixth.

Brody Sobaski from Pekin was second in the high jump after clearing 5-feet-8-inches. English Valleys sophomore Everett Bender was third. Sigourney’s Hunter Sellers was fourth.

Caden Bender from Pekin was second in the boys shot put with a throw of 42-feet-half-an-inch. Sigourney’s Jayden Thompson was sixth. Alton Williams from Pekin placed ninth.

Tegan Mast from English Valleys led the area athletes in the 400 meter dash with a fifth place finish. Sigourney’s Gauge Little placed ninth. Pekin’s Coldy Silvers was 11th.

Braydon Anderson from English Valleys led the way in the 200 meter dash for the area runners with a fourth place finish. Lance Walden from Sigourney was 11th.

Sigourney’s 4×100 team was fifth to lead area teams. English Valleys placed seventh.

Pekin’s distance medley team finished seventh. Sigourney’s team was eighth overall.

Pekin teammates Landon Crow and Lane Fariss placed eighth and ninth in the 800 meter run. Sigourney’s John Berg was 10th.

Sigourney’s Klett was fifth in the 1,600 meter run. Cole Millikin was sixth. Levi Myers from Sigourney finished 14th.

In the sprint medley English Valleys placed fourth, Sigourney was sixth and Keota was 12th.

Gage Heyne from English Valleys rounds the track while leading during the 3,200 meter run event. Heyne would win the race by over 12 seconds. He also set a new meet and track record with a winning time of 9:48.51 in the race.
