COLUMBUS JUNCTION – It gave them a lot to be thankful for.
With one last tournament before the holiday break the Pekin girls wrestling team were able to grab some more things to be thankful for. Not only did six of their wrestlers win their weight class, the Panther team won the meet with 174 points.
In second place was Van Buren County with 130 points. Oakland, Riverside was in third with 106 total points.
Lexa Nelson continued her early season run of good tournaments with a win in the 110-pound bracket. Nelson was able to win the semifinal round over a Van Buren County wrestler in 1:41. She was then able to win her first place match with a pin in 1:42.
Bree Earnst was able to win her 115-pound bracket. Earnest started her meet with a quarterfinal round with a win over a WACO opponent, pinning her in 1:29. She was then able to pin a Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union opponent in 1:54. In the championship match Earnest was able to pin a Tipton opponent in 29 seconds.
Lila Miller was able to win the 130-pound bracket. Miller started with a quarterfinal win in 33 seconds over an Albia opponent. In the semifinals Miller needed jsut 16 seconds to pin a Mediapolis opponent. In the championship match Miller needed 48 seconds to pin a North Cedar opponent.
Ivory Small was able to win the 135-pound bracket. Small started with a win over an Albia opponent in 3:57. She then just needed 1:19 to pin a Tipton opponent. In the championship match Small was able to best a Highland opponent 10-3.
Hailey Pedrick won the 145-pound bracket. She started with a 39 second pin in the semifinals. In the championship she needed 59 seconds to pin an Albia opponent.
Ella Rose was third in the 155-pound bracket. She went 2-2 in the tournament with a win over a Camanche opponent and a Mediapolis opponent.
Autumn Coleman was fourth in the 125 pound bracket. She was able to win her consolation semifinal match, pinning a WACO opponent in 2:24.
Reece Brisby was fifth overall in the 130-pound bracket. Brisby won three of her five matches, pinning one wrestler in 37 seconds.
Rylee Frye was fifth in the 235-pound bracket. Frye was able to win her first and final match, both with first period pins.
Carly Clubb was able to finish sixth in the 190-pound bracket.
