WATERLOO – Jayden Montgomery ended her senior season on a high note.
During the class 1A State bowling tournament held in Waterloo, Montgomery was able to finish sixth overall.
Montgomery was able to bowl her way into the tournament portion of the State bowling tournament with three good games. Her first game featured her bowling a 211. That rocketed the Sigourney-Keota senior right near the top of the scoring charts. After a second game of 185 Montgomery was able to stay in the top-8 she needed to advance.
In the third game Montgomery bowled a 204, which allowed her to finish the three game portion of the event with a total pin count of 600. That placed her seventh overall, and she advanced into the bracket portion of the state meet.
In the bracket portion of the meet Montgomery took on Callie Arens of MMCRU. It was a close battle as Montgomery rolled a 201. However Arens bowled a 249 to advance to the semifinals.
Montgomery’s day wasn’t done. She would take onKamryn Taylor in the consolation bracket.
Montgomery had a 197 in the consolation bracket to best Taylor’s 184. That sent Montgomery to the fifth place game.
Montgomery was able to battle Abby Nylin in a close match. Nylon would best Montgomery by two pins 215-213 to have Montgomery finish sixth overall in the class 1A meet.
Montgomery wasn’t the only S-K bowler at the State meet. Teammate Sophine Young also qualified.
Young had a three game series of 525. She bowled a 188 to start the meet. After a 200 in her second game Young finished with a 137 in the final game. She did not make the top-8 to advance to the bracket play.
In the boys State tournament Sigourney-Keota was represented by Landyn Greiner.
Greiner made quite an impression on the rest of the class 1A competition after his first game of the pre-bracket play.
In the first game Greiner scored a 290 and was the leader of the class 1A leaderboard. However, a second game score of 161 dropped Greiner from the top-8. Greiner finished the third game with a 215. Overall Greiner had a total pin count of 666, but he finished 12th overall in the pre-bracket play and did not qualify for the bracket portion of the meet.
Sam Kress of Maquoketa won the boys class 1A individual title.
