English Valleys girls take second at SICL meet, Bears boys place fourth Sigourney boys place fifth, girls take sixth at conference meet

COLFAX – Conference championships seemed easy to come by for the three area schools last week. 

At the South Iowa Cedar League Conference track championships held May 6 in Colfax the three area schools brought home plenty of hardware. 

The English Valleys girls team finished highest in the standings taking second with 104 points. HLV-TC won the meet with 116.5 points. Sigourney was sixth in the standings. Keota placed 11th. 

In the boys race English Valleys was fourth with 94.5 total points. Sigourney was fifth with 80 points and Keota was 10th with 16. Iowa Valley won the boys meet with 142 total points.

Girls results:

English Valleys sophomore Ava Gehrking continued her successful spring as she won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.56. She backed that win up with a win in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.2. 

Sigourney’s Kia Montgomery was fifth overall in the 200. 

The English Valleys sprint medley relay team of Kailor Lown, Mallory Koehn, Gehrking and Anna Luers won with a time of 1:55.55. Sigourney’s sprint medley team was eighth and Keota placed 10th. 

Anna Luers from English Valleys was able to finish second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.07. Addison Achenbach was ninth in the same race. 

Luers would pace the area schools in the 800 meter run where she finished third with a time of 2:28.02. Teammate Kaylynn Caster placed seventh. 

Sigourney juniors Ellie and Addison Yates would place second and third in the 1,500 meter run. Ellie had a time of 5:25.62. Addison finished with a time of 5:27.78.

Ellie Yates would finish third in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:37.14. Emily Sieren from English Valleys placed ninth in the same race. 

English Valleys hurdler Kailor Lown was second overall in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.17. Teammate Joslyn Bender was eighth overall. 

Taylor Mikesell was second overall in the shot put with a throw of 34-feet-1-inch. Sigourney’s Josephine Moore was fourth overall with a throw of 32-feet-3-inches. Karley Greiner from Keota was 11th. 

Mikesell was second in the discus event with a throw of 100-feet-2-inches. Moore finished eighth overall in the same event. 

Brynn Clarahan from Sigourney was third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:12.57. English Valleys hurdler Joslyn Bender was sixth overall. 

English Valleys placed third in the 4×800 relay. Sigourney finished sixth. 

Gehrking from English Valleys was second overall in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet-4.25-inches. Keota’s Elyse Lyle was eighth overall. 

In the 4×400 the English Valleys team placed fourth. Sigourney was sixth.

Olivia Debevec was fifth in the high jump. 

Sigourney led the area in the 4×100 relay with a fifth place finish English Valleys was sixth and Keota placed ninth.  

Sigourney was also fifth in the 4×200 relay. Keota was eighth and English Valleys placed 11th.

The English Valleys distance medley team placed sixth. Sigourney’s was eighth.  

English Valleys shuttle hurdle relay team placed seventh overall. 

Boys results:

Gage Heyne won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:05.85. The English Valleys senior was able to pace the pack and won by nearly three seconds. Teammate Jack Osborne was third. Levi Myers from Sigourney placed fourth. 

Heyne also was able to win the 1,600 meter race with a time of 4:23.38. Troy Klett from Sigourney was second with a time of 4:42.07. Isaac Frazier from English Valleys placed ninth.

Heyne was also the champion in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 10:16.67. Klett from Sigourney was second with a time of 10:29.15. Frazier from English Valleys was fifth.  

In the distance medley relay the English Valleys team of Ben Coffman, Deshon Anderson, Jack Osborne and Heyne won with a time of 3:40.67. Sigourney’s team was sixth overall.

Sigourney’s Jayden Thompson won the shot put event with a throw of 46-feet-7.5-inches. Kane Axmear from English Valleys was ninth. Graham Moore from Sigourney placed 11th. 

Thompson won the discus event as well. The Sigourney senior had a winning throw of 140-feet. Kane Axmear from English Valleys was fifth. Ashton Schwab from Sigourney was ninth. 

Ayden Galindo from Keota won the high jump after clearing six feet even. He won in a jump off against Connor Deal from Lynnville-Sully. Everett Bender from English Valleys was sixth overall. Hunter Sellers from Sigourney was eighth overall. 

English Valleys long jumper Deshon Anderson was second overall with a leap of 20-feet-11.25-inches. Ayden Galindo from Keota was fourth with a leap of 18-feet-11.5-inches. Sigourney’s Aiden Knepper was sixth with a leap of 17-feet-11-inches. English Valleys jumper Hunter Offerman was seventh overall. 

Braydon Anderson from English Valleys was third overall in the 100 meter dash. Carson O’Rourke was sixth in the same race.

The English Valleys 4×100 team placed fourth. Sigourney’s team was seventh and Keota placed ninth. 

In the 4×400 relay the Sigourney team was fourth overall. English Valleys was eighth. 

Sigourney placed fifth in the 4×200. English Valleys was ninth and Keota was 10th. 

The English Valleys 4×800 team finished fifth. Sigourney was sixth in the same race. 

The English Valleys sprint medley relay team placed third overall with a time of 1:38.78. Sigourney placed sixth and Keota finished in eighth. 

Sigourney’s 4×110 shuttle hurdle relay team of Chase Clarahan, Dillon Menke, Owen Menke and Caden Clarahan finished fourth. English Valleys team was eighth.  

In the 200 meter dash Braydon Anderson from English Valleys placed fifth overall. Aiden Knepper from Sigourney was 10th. 

In the 110 hurdles Sigourney’s Caden Clarahan placed fifth overall with a time of 16.62. Everett Bender from English Valleys was ninth. Owen Menke from Sigourney placed 10th and Keota’s Jacob Libe was 11th. 

Troy Klett was able to finish sixth in the 400 meter dash. The Sigourney junior was the highest-placing runner of local schools. Teagan Mast from English Valleys was eighth overall. 

Dillon Menke from Sigourney led area schools in the 400 hurdles with a ninth place finish.
