Boys basketball:<\/em><\/p>\n SIGOURNEY – Last week, 76 seemed to be the magic number. <\/span><\/p>\n The Sigourney boys basketball teams played in two games last week, winning both, and scoring exactly 76 points in both games. <\/span><\/p>\n Their week started off with a 76-34 victory over HLV-TC at home. That contest was off to a fast start as Sigourney outscored the Warriors 44-14 in the first half. The Savages gave up just 20 points in the second half while scoring 32, to secure the victory. <\/span><\/p>\n Solon Yates and Brayden Wood both scored 12 points in the game. Ike Molyneux added 11 points. Landon Conrad finished with seven points and Chase Clarahan scored six points in the victory. <\/span><\/p>\n The Tuesday night win kept the offense warm as they returned to the floor on Thursday night with a 76-59 victory over Moravia. <\/span><\/p>\n The Savages led 19-16 after the first quarter. Both teams had plenty of offense in the second quarter as a total of 41 points were scored, with 23 of those coming from Sigourney. Defense helped carry the way for the Savages in the second half as they gave up just 24 points to secure the win. <\/span><\/p>\n Solon Yates led all scorers with 27 points in the victory. He set a new school record by hitting nine three pointers in the game. <\/span><\/p>\n John Berg scored 16 points and Brayden Wood finished with 10 points. <\/span><\/p>\n The wins push Sigourney’s record on the season to 15-4 overall.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Pekin continued their winning streak over SICL North competition last week. On Tuesday night the Panthers were able to gain a 60-48 victory over Columbus. <\/span><\/p>\n The Panthers jumped out to a 21-4 lead after the first quarter. By halftime they led 32-19. That lead carried for the Panthers throughout the second half as they scored 28 more points, and held Columbus to 29. <\/span><\/p>\n Cole Millikin was able to lead his team with 22 points. Alijah Brock added 13 points. Henry Adam finished with 12 points and Nolan Glick finished with 10 points in the win.<\/span><\/p>\n As the Panthers moved into SICL play against the south division, their winning streak of 11-straight games was snapped as they fell 56-44 to Central Lee. <\/span><\/p>\n Through the first quarter the Panthers held a 13-10 lead. In the second quarter the Panther shots went cold and they scored just four points as Central Lee took the lead. The Panthers would never recover and were defeated. <\/span><\/p>\n Cole Millikin had 16 points in the game. Henry Adam finished with 14 points. Another nine points were scored by Nolan Glick. <\/span><\/p>\n Overall the Panthers are 17-4 on the season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The week started off on a high note for the Bears. <\/span><\/p>\n In an out of conference game against Valley Lutheran, English Valleys gained a 70-19 victory. <\/span><\/p>\n The Bears were in control of that contest from the start as they led 19-4 after the first quarter. A 23-3 run by the Bears throughout the second quarter helped the Bears lead 42-7 at halftime. <\/span><\/p>\n The second half was played under a continuous clock, and the Bears were able to easily cruise to their 10th win of the season. <\/span><\/p>\n Ben Axmear was able to score 14 points in the game to lead his team. Kane Axmear added 14 points. Another 12 points came from Christian Tripses. Will Luers would finish the game with 10 points of his own. <\/span><\/p>\n The rest of the week didn’t go as planned for the Bears. They fell to North Mahaska 55-43 on Tuesday night. Both teams were tied after the first quarter, but North Mahaska took the lead by outscoring the Bears 29-20 through the second and third quarters. <\/span><\/p>\n Christian Tripses led the team with 15 points. Another 11 points came from Ben Axmear. Kane Axmear finished with 10 points of his own. <\/span><\/p>\n Friday night, the Bears were on the road against Lynnville-Sully, where they fell 74-34. <\/span><\/p>\n Lynnville-Sully was in complete control of the game as they led 41-16 at halftime. The Bears would score just 18 points in the second half. <\/span><\/p>\n Kane Axmear finished with 14 points in the game. Everett Bender would finish with 11 points. Ben Axmear finished with four points. <\/span><\/p>\n The Bears are 10-10 this season. <\/span><\/p>\n A Monday night marquee win was exactly what the Eagles needed. <\/span><\/p>\n Last week the Eagles were able to best Montezuma 63-62 in a late season classic. The Eagles led 20-14 after the first quarter, but Montezuma was able to storm back and tie the game at 31 at halftime. <\/span><\/p>\n Keota led 48-46 after the third quarter. Montezuma and Keota both continued to make shots throughout the fourth quarter, but the Eagles were able to withhold the challenge and take a 63-62 victory over the Braves.<\/span><\/p>\n Jackson Vittetoe would score 20 points in the win. Brennan McGuire had 14 points in the game. Ayden Galindo added 12 points while Chase Haifley finished with 10 points.<\/span><\/p>\n The good feelings from the Monday night win didn’t carry over as the Eagles fell to Iowa Valley 63-45 the very next night. <\/span><\/p>\n Keota just never got their offense going as they trailed 27-23 at halftime. A 20-point third quarter by the Tigers helped push them to the win. <\/span><\/p>\n Chase Haifley was able to score 11 points in the game. Ayden Galindo added 10 points and Jackson Vittetoe finished with nine points. Porter Cave scored seven points.<\/span><\/p>\n Friday night the Eagles were back in action as they grabbed a 69-40 win over the winless Belle Plaine team. <\/span><\/p>\n The Eagles led 36-14 at halftime and scored another 33 points in the second half. <\/span><\/p>\n Porter Cave and Chase Haifley both scored 17 points in the win. Brennan McGuire finished with 10 points and Ayden Galindo added another nine points. Blake Baker scored eight points in the win. <\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Girls basketball:<\/em><\/p>\n SIGOURNEY – The Savages were able to notch two more victories last week. <\/span><\/p>\n On Tuesday night they were able to down HLV-TC 67-32. The Savages trailed by two after the first quarter, but were able to shoot themselves into a 22-19 lead by halftime. <\/span><\/p>\n A 30-point third quarter pushed the Savages even farther into the lead, and from there they seemed to go on cruise control to grab the win. <\/span><\/p>\n Brynn Clarahan was able to score 28 points in the victory. She finished the game shooting 63 percent from the floor. Bailey Gretter was able to score from long range as she made five three pointers and eventually finished with 21 points. Ella Bruns would score nine points. <\/span><\/p>\n The Savages were able to add a 56-35 win over Moravia to end the week. The Savages led 28-25 at halftime. In the second half the Savages were able to limit Moravia to just 10 points. <\/span><\/p>\n Overall the Savages stand at 14-6 on the season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Panthers didn’t have the week they were wanting to last week. <\/span><\/p>\n On Tuesday night the Panthers fell 37-35 to Columbus. They led 18-14 at halftime, but were held to 17 points in the second half. Columbus would score 23 points in the second half to take the win. <\/span><\/p>\n Anna Hadley had 10 points in the game. Abby Guise finished with nine points and Carlie Gambell finished with six points. <\/span><\/p>\n The Panthers tried to recover on Thursday night with a game against Central Lee. <\/span><\/p>\n Central Lee used a strong first half to eventually finish with a 50-33 victory. <\/span><\/p>\n Ezra Parsons led the Panthers with eight points. Abby Guise finished with seven points. Freshman Kendra Schultz finished with another eight points. <\/span><\/p>\n It was a week of mixed results for English Valleys. <\/span><\/p>\n Tuesday night they were able to gain a narrow, 33-32 win over North Mahaska. After trailing by five after the first quarter, they narrowed the gap to just three points at halftime. <\/span><\/p>\n A 15-7 third quarter run put the Bears in the lead. Although North Mahaska battled back in the fourth quarter the Bears made one more shot to get the win. <\/span><\/p>\n Anna Luers was able to lead the scoring with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Addison Achenbach finished with 10 points. Kaylynn Caster added another five points.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Friday night the Bears battled No. 5 ranked Lynnville-Sully, but the Hawks were too much as the Bears fell 53-35. <\/span><\/p>\n Overall the Bears are 15-5 on the season.<\/span><\/p>\n The final week of the regular season was a good one for the Eagles. <\/span><\/p>\n On Monday night, the Eagles were able to best Montezuma, 47-45. <\/span><\/p>\n Both teams were tied at nine after the first quarter. Keota outscored the Bravettes 19-10 in the second quarter to take the lead. Montezuma stormed back with 26 points scored in the second half. Although the Eagles only scored 18 points, that was enough to give them the win. <\/span><\/p>\n Cameron Haifley finished with 24 points in the win. Emily Conger scored eight points and Elyse Lyle finished with six points. Jessalyn Aller added five points.<\/span><\/p>\n The wins kept coming for Keota as they scored a 63-34 win over Iowa Valley last Tuesday night. <\/span><\/p>\n The Eagles led 11-4 after the first quarter, and used a 23-9 run in the second quarter to build a lead that wouldn’t be touched. <\/span><\/p>\n Cameron Haifley finished with 21 points. Kennedy Jackson added 12 points. Karley Greiner added seven points, and Emily Conger finished with six points. <\/span><\/p>\n The regular season ended with a 60-16 win over Belle Plaine. The Eagles never had a doubt in that game as they led 40-6 at halftime. They added another 20 points in the second half. <\/span><\/p>\n Cameron Haifley would lead the Eagles with 22 points. Emily Conger added another 13 points. Jessalyn Aller finished with 10 points. <\/span><\/p>\n The Eagles are 16-5 this season.
