Gene then returned to Iowa and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1970, with a BA.\u00a0 He worked as a payroll\/cost accountant for American Cyanamid Company in Hannibal, Missouri, American Home Products Corp., Wyeth and Pfizer, Inc. for 24 years before retiring in 1994.\u00a0 Gene was a member of the United Church of Faith and the American Legion.<br \/>\nSurvivors include two sisters Margaret Burk of Bucklin, Missouri and Loretta Streigle of Sigourney; and two brothers Dennis Baumert of Keota and Larry Baumert of Marion. He was preceded by his parents and ten siblings Dorothy Dorsey, Donald Baumert, Howard Baumert, Harry Baumert, Marilyn Van Fleet, Darlene Streets, Duane Baumert, Norma Baumert, Glen Baumert, and Paul Baumert.\u00a0 Gene was loved by all&#8230; with over 44 nieces and nephews and sooo many great nieces and nephews who quite simply adored him.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on <span class=\"zm_inLnk_disabled\" role=\"button\" data-value=\"2026-04-03 15:00:00\" aria-label=\"Add a task, event, or reminder for Friday, April 3, 2026\">Friday, April 3, 2026<\/span>, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with Pastor Doug Tinnes officiating.\u00a0 The service will also be live streamed on the Powell Funeral Home facebook page.\u00a0 Burial will be at Keota Cemetery, with military rites by Keota V.F.W. Post #4716.\u00a0 Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on <span class=\"zm_inLnk_disabled\" role=\"button\" data-value=\"2026-04-03 15:00:00\" aria-label=\"Add a task, event, or reminder for Friday\">Friday<\/span> at the funeral home.<\/p>\n<p>A memorial fund has been established for the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.\u00a0 Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Gene and his family.\u00a0 Tributes may be made at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powellfuneralhomes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.powellfuneralhomes.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KEOTA\u2014Gene Baumert, age 84, of Keota, died Friday, March 27, 2026, at his home.
