Lake’s City Jeff True was among the dozens of farmers across the state to be recognized with the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award on August 14 at the Iowa State Fair. Created in 2012 by the State of Iowa, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, the award recognizes Iowa farmers that go above and beyond with their voluntary efforts to protect the environment. Whether it is planting cover crops or converting ground into wetlands, these families have put extra effort into preventing soil erosion and improving water quality in the state. “We know that protecting water is not a one time thing, but our way of life,” said Governor Kim Reynolds. “Each of you are true leaders in this effort, showing others how thriving agriculture and effective environmental stewardship can work side-by-side.” Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and DNR Director Kayla Lyon in joined Governor Reynolds passing out the awards and congratulating the recipients.
