Supervisors okay equipment purchase, underground construction permit

Buying equipment and signing an underground construction permit was the primary focus of a recent meeting conducted by the Board of Supervisors of Calhoun County, held on Sept. 17 at the Calhoun County Courthouse in Rockwell City.

The board – Mike Cooper, Scott Jacobs and Carl Legore – moved to purchase a 40-foot Tandem Axle Belly Dump Sand and Gravel Trailer along with a Caterpillar 938M Wheel Loader, and passed a measure for an underground construction permit to Schoon Excavation and Farm Drainage of Pocahontas for the construction of a new drainage tile one-fourth of a mile east of Pomeroy.

Other portions of their meeting entailed a tax abatement for a parcel of land and approving an annual Urban Renewal Report for the fiscal year 2018- 2019.

Following the approval of the agenda, previous meeting’s minutes and no public comments, the supervisors visited with County Engineer Zac Andersen. Andersen presented secondary road updates, along with Mike Moeller – Assistant to the Engineer, Safety Officer and Zoning and Flood Plain Ad– ministrator.

After meeting with Andersen and Moeller, the supervisors gave the thumbs up for the underground construction permit for the installation of a new tile within the Sherman Township. Moments later, the supervisors passed the motion to purchase new equipment.

The board then met with Conservationist Curtis Vanderheiden, who discussed the taxes for a parcel of land. In visiting with Vanderheiden, the supervisors approved the move to abate taxes for the parcel.

Following drainage claims, which are available for review upon request at the County Auditor’s office, the board then approved the Annual Urban Renewal Report for the fiscal year of 2018-2019.

With no further business, the supervisors adjourned. The board met once more this past Tuesday morning at the Calhoun County Courthouse.
