It was a busy day for the Board of Supervisors of Calhoun County, as they met with 13 department heads of the county during their recent meeting on Oct. 1 at the Calhoun County Courthouse in Rockwell City.
In their meeting with the department heads, the supervisors – Mike Cooper, Scott Jacobs and Carl Legore – were provided updates on Time Off Benefits.
Along with meeting with their fellow officials, the supervisors signed two contracts, approved the repair of a joint drainage district with neighboring Webster County and gave the proverbial thumbs up to a new hire at the Auditor’s Office.
Following the approval of the agenda, the previous meeting’s minutes and no public comments, the board met with County Engineer Zac Andersen, who provided Secondary Road updates. Mike Moeller, Assistant to the Engineer and Safety Officer/Zoning and Flood Plain Administrator was also present to update the board on secondary roads.
Moments later, the board authorized Chairman Mike Cooper to sign two contracts, the 2019 Liquid Propane Contract with Al’s Corner Oil Company of Carroll and a contract with Mobile Crushing and Recycling, a recycling company based in Otho.
The board then met with the 13 heads of various Calhoun County departments, who provided updates on Time Off Benefits. The departments represented were Human Resources, Public Health, Mental Health, Ambulance, the Treasurer’s Office, the Assessor’s Office, Maintenance, Conservation, the Engineer’s Office, Zoning and Flood Plains, Facilities, the Auditor’s Office and the County Attorney.
After meeting with the department heads, Executive Director of MIDAS Council of Governments Kathryn Pfiffner was provided the board with updates from the Mid-Iowa Development Association.
Renee Stauter of Mid Iowa Insurance then visited with the board, and provided Mid Iowa Insurance Renewal rates for 2019-2020.
Following their meeting with Stauter, the supervisors held a joint phone call with Webster County concerning a joint drainage district. Out of the phone call, the board approved the ditch repair for the join drainage district, along with the approval of an application of construction across another joint drainage district.
The full details of both passing measures are available for review upon request in the Auditor’s Office.
Leah Henkleman then presented a request for a tile repair in Drainage District 99 to the board. After discussion between the supervisors and Henkleman, more information was needed.
Before agreeing to recess, the supervisors approved the hire of Lyndie Sedlacek in the Auditor’s Office. Returning from their break, the supervisors then went into a closed session.
After coming out of the closed session, the board adjourned.
The latest meeting held by the board took place this past Tuesday at the Calhoun County Courthouse.
