Cowboy wrestlers score sweep of two duals

Last Thursday in Iowa Falls, the Cowboy wrestling team made quick work of both IF-A and Webster City in a triangular. They defeated the Cadets 45-31 and the Lynx 55-18.

Versus the Cadets, falls were recorded by Rigo Babadilla (106) in :46, Tyler Stein (113) in 1:27, Garrett Seaba (160) in :50, Bryce Allen (170) in 4:25, Cael Ahrens (182) in 2:22, Camden Hanson (195) in 1:30 and Danny Chavez (285) in :55. Ethan Traub (126) took a wild 16-13 decision.

Winners in exhibition matches were Damien Bjorklund (11-6 dec.) and Luis Delacruz (fall in 1:38).

Versus the Lynx, winners by fall were Traub (3:24), R. Hanson (3:44), Reed Abbas (1:11), Seaba (3:21), C. Hanson (1:34) and Erick Perez (2:22). In addition, Stein won a 9-1 major decision, Kirstein an 8-3 decision, Allen an 11-6 decision and Ahrens a 9-5 decision. Kain Nelson (220) won by forfeit.

Winners of exhibition matches included Bobadilla (fall in :32) and Jackson Beisel (fall in 1:21).

At the two-day Cliff Keen Invitational at Independence, Simley won the team title with 424 points. They were followed in the top five in the 33 team field by Lisbon with 377, Fort Dodge with 316.5, Christian Brothers College with 245.5 and Ankeny with 228. The Cowboys wee 17th with 146 points.

Stein was the highest individual finisher in taking seventh place. He followed two byes with a fall in 1:45 over Hoover (Indep.) He lost his quarterfinal match, but came through the backside of the bracket to take a win by fall in 1:44 over Rider (Smithville) for his placing. Abbas (145) and Seaba (152) were only one spot behind in eighth. Abbas won three straight matches by fall to move into the quarters, then was injured and was forced to take a medical forfeit. Seaba used two straight falls and a 10-2 major decision over Sallis (Wat. East) to reach the quarters. He never won again in finishing in that spot.

The team hosts St. Edmond and Clear Lake this Thursday, then travels to the Aplington-Parkersburg Tournament this Saturday.
